Healthy approach to AI
One of the risks technology and healthcare experts perceive in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is that people can ascribe too much wisdom to AI applications and might forgo other trusted sources of information. As society realises the drawbacks of adopting AI in certain areas of work and life, there remain trusted and robust AI systems within the medical sector which can help optimise and streamline healthcare and research. One example is an AI tool for assessing lung cancer risk developed by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Jameel Clinic. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death globally, and the tool, Sybil, can help predict the risk of developing lung cancer up to six years in advance.
